Description | José de Sousa Mayor - Red Wine
José de Sousa Mayor - Red Wine is a red wine from the Alentejo region produced by José Maria da Fonseca, expressing the identity and winemaking tradition of this region. Made from the Trincadeira, Grand Noir, and Aragonez grape varieties, it reveals a profile marked by depth, structure, and character, combining the richness of the fruit with a strong component of authenticity.
According to available information, the harvest is done manually and the winemaking process includes traditional methods, with light crushing and destemming by hand using a "ripanço" table. Part of the must, skins, and about 30% of the stems ferment in clay amphorae, while another part ferments in lagares (traditional stone vats). This process gives the wine a very distinctive personality and a solid structure, reflecting the winemaking heritage of the Alentejo region.
In the glass, it presents brownish tones and an aroma that combines notes of dates, clay, oak, and wood. On the palate, nuances of clay, dates, tannins, and wood reappear, in an enveloping and persistent ensemble. The finish is long, leaving a lasting and distinctive sensation.
